Admission Procedures

  • The summer program is open to all regularly enrolled undergraduate and graduate students of all majors who have interest in Africa-related issues.
  • All applicants must have earned a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher and demonstrate a high degree of interest and open mindedness in accepting other cultures through their experiences, letters of application, and/or interview with the selection committee.
  • Non-Francophone Students who plan to take courses taught in French must have already completed intermediate French in their respective universities or be fluent in French (Adequate fluency will be determined after an interview with the instructor or based on their academic records). If necessary, an interview will be scheduled within the week after the submission of the application.
  • Non-Anglophone Students who plan to take classes in English must be at least third year English majors or be fluent in English (Adequate fluency will be determined after an interview with the instructor or based on their academic records). If necessary, an interview will be scheduled within the week after the submission of the application.
  • Once all the requirements are fulfilled, you will receive a letter regarding your acceptance to the program and an invoice for the deposit, about 10 days after your completed application.
  • The $200 non-refundable deposit will be due approximately three weeks after the application deadline via Freshbooks. This deposit counts toward your tuition payment.
  • Along with your deposit, a scanned copy of your transcripts is required.
  • Payment is due in full two months from the date of the first invoice. The student has a choice to pay online via Freshbooks, send a check to the listed address, or wire the money directly to the DIAS account. A confirmation of payment will be sent once the payment is received.
  • Along with your full payment, a scanned copy of the first page of your passport is required.
  • If, under any circumstances, you are not able to attend your program, please send an email to DIAS to notify us of your decision to cancel. Once you have cancelled or withdrawn from the program in writing, you will no longer receive bills or emails from DIAS.
  • If you have already paid and you cancel before the first day of classes, your tuition will be reimbursed minus the $200 non-refundable deposit. After the first day of classes, your tuition will be reimbursed on a prorated basis.
  • If you defer your acceptance to the program to a later term, the decision must be made no less than 15 days prior to the start of the program.
